The call of God on my life came at an
early age. My parents converted to Christ after my mother was set free from
demon spirits through the ministry of a missionary from
Bristol
England
. The Church became our home
and a new life ensued. Although other members of our extended family cut us
off, we made new friends within the fellowship of Believers. My parents began
to pray that one of their sons would become a minister of the gospel and at the
tender age of thirteen the Lord touched me and I surrendered my life Him. At
the age of sixteen I heeded the call at an Easter Convention held at our local
church in Empangeni, Kwa-Zulu
Natal
,
South Africa
. The Call of God on my life grew
stronger as I matured in the Christian Faith. My school days were filled with
exciting moments when I would share with my classmates the Good News of Jesus
Christ. My friends would tease me as the class "pastor". Muslim and Hindu
friends alike received the message of Christ from me. I became bold and
unashamed of my faith in Christ. After my high school days came to an end, I
worked for a short while to save some money to go to
Bible
College
. A year later I enrolled at the
Johannesburg Bible Institute and studied there for three years. The Lord then
led me into mission work after spending time with YWAM. My trips took me to the
Indian Ocean
Islands
of
Mauritius
,
Madagascar
and the
Seychelles
. It was then that I learnt
that a missionary is not made by crossing the sea but by seeing the cross!! My
faith and zeal to take bold initiatives for Christ grew stronger. I was
determined to win the lost at any cost. I joined Scripture
Union
and pioneered the work amongst Indian Schools for five years in
Durban
. This resulted in hundreds of young
people coming to Christ and also going into the ministry. The Lord
graciously led me to many parts of the world since 1973 and I was honoured to
have met some of the great preachers of our time.
South Africa
was in turmoil during the 70's
and 80' due to the political unrest and apartheid laws. I was determined to
make a difference and went into politics but was defeated by a strong wealthy
opponent. I met with political leaders and talked about their faith. One leader
even invited me into his home and asked me to pray with him, which I did.
My time in
Durban
came to an end when the Lord gave me a
clear word to move north. This time to
Johannesburg
, a city well known for its crime and
violence. My task there was to set up a shelter for homeless people and
minister the love of God to them. This I did with great zeal and joy. Many
hundreds from the streets of
Johannesburg
came to the saving knowledge of Christ.
This led my wife to begin a ministry with children from disadvantaged
communities and those infected and affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. This
ministry has been going on by the grace of God for twelve years and continues
to grow even now into neighbouring countries.
We avail ourselves to minister to all
peoples everywhere touching them with the Love of Christ Jesus, our Lord and
Master!
